Foot controls and the advantages of the modular principle
140 employees attentively develop and manufacture foot switches for medical equipment at our facility in Löhne. A large selection of different foot switches has been created in long-term cooperation with manufacturers of electromedical equipment and apparatus, as well as manufacturers from the dental sector.
Products from steute can be found in hospitals, operating theatres and doctor’s surgeries all over the world. Because of our high standards and specific orientation, steute possesses (among others) a quality management system in accordance with EN ISO 13485. Furthermore, a vast number of steute products are approved by TÜV, UL and CSA.
Foot controls for dental applications
Ergonomics, safety and highest reliability: these are the main requirements for hand-held and foot-operated controls for medical equipment. Foot controls play an important role here.
steute has designed a new, versatile foot control. Workplace studies at a high number of dentists were the basis for this new foot control. steute was supported by the University Of Münster and the Centre For Ergonomics And Serviceability.
The aim was to expose the strengths and weaknesses of different systems. A sedentary or standing working position, the work experience of the dentist, a preference for horizontal or vertical rpm adjustment, as well as operation with the left or right foot, were all taken into consideration.
The result can be seen
Two different modularly designed foot switches, consisting of the following main components: // Joypad for positioning of patient with 4 functions (adjustment of head part, adjustment of foot part, tilting of chair, height of chair) // Pedal/lever for control of instruments (revolutions/speed) // Push button for diverse auxiliary functions, e.g. spray, chip blower, right/left-hand motion, memory, etc. // Aluminium or thermoplastic housing // Carrying/protective handle
